You forgot to mention that secret method that doesn't require any time, money or knowledge. You just...Oh wait! I almost gave it away! :whistling:

adwords and more adwords got that site big but the content must be ok to stay there, he also links to his other sites like jellymuffin and pimpmyspace so that helps

Its mainly adwords. Works with sites that feed off viral content like comment graphics. Someone sees a sweet graphic on their friend's profile, follows the link, posts it on 2+ more profiles. Exponential growth in a small period of time.

before adsense got cut last year you could break even on link buying and adwords now its a sure loser, returns have decreased but advertising prices have not. the cycle will become self forfilling in the end.

Not really correct. I don't link to pimpmyspace, either (I don't own that site).

Don't believe everything you Alexa.

They aren't as big as they seem.

And I am just starting to see some traffic results. I am on a low budget. Low budget equals the slow and steady climb. Depending on your budget, here are things that are working for me:

Get a myspace profile for your site. Add new friends to it. You can use friend blaster or other automation software to help you add people. Just don't over do it (more than 400 requests per day). Decorate your myspace with stuff from your site. Make it beautiful.

SEO your website - meaning - make the site readable by the bots who crawl the web. If you are adding your pics and layouts via a script - use good filenames, like girl-is-hugging-tree.jpg instead of girl004.jpg. Get aaron wall's seo book (seobook.com). it's worth the price.

Make a sitemap for Google and the other engines (use www.xml-sitemaps.com)

Check out the link exchanges section of this forum.

Add your site to directories. I use IBP for this, but if you can't afford the software, there are people who add them for you for a reasonable fee.

If you have budget...

Advertise on adwords. Be careful though.

Purchase links on high traffic sites.

Advertising traffic can be fleeting though - back it up with a great site, cool content, and all the seo stuff. Make sure everything functions on your site before you really push it.

Hope this helps.
Rita

That's US only traffic, and a way bit off, to say the least. -lol-

You could also look at this chart and it shows something WAY different.
http://www.quantcast.com/traffic-compare.jsp?domain0=zwani.com&domain1=pyzam.com&domain2=&domain3=&domain4=&relative=Y

Really people do not give up much info in this business about how they do what they do. It's best to just try and make your site work the best for you and your visitors
and not try to worry too much about everyone else.

I think this applies to all starting websites in general especially when you have limited resources. But banner networks and topsites list are good way of getting free traffic and your traffic will increase as you get more traffic and more people visit the topsites list from your site, you site goes up on the list which in returns gives you a higher chance of being seen.

Heres a few topsites list that I know:
http://www.myspacetopsites.com/
http://www.myspacetopsite.net/
http://myspace.topsitee.com/
http://www.getonmyspace.com/

I don't know of any myspace related banner networks, but what I did instead was found a gothic banner network since thats my targeted aim of visitors even tho I'm steering more into all out categories. But as of right now I prolly get 5 times as many visitors from those sites than I send to them.

Now my site is only a few months old but soon as my site grows I'll most likely remove these links for more room for more beneficial link exchanges.

This some advice I need to take myself since I spend so much time on these forums just refreshing the page in hopes of a new post LOL. But if you're active on a bunch of different forums and have the link to your site in you signature you actually get a good bit of visitors from that, especially if you make good qaulity post on those forums.

hi yes common problem with quantcast and comscore the traffic they record is only USA, having said that, this traffic is the most important and valuable.

anyway no matter how you launch a site and get traffic you still have to have quality content to keep visitors coming back, so any site that uses adwords and then stays big must be doing something right.

Link exchange will not get him much traffic. One way links worth much more, as they will bring him organic traffic(search engine traffic).

Yea, I can do this for you for a reasonable fee. Save you the hours it would take to submit your site to quality directories.

Visiting huge forums like digitalpoint and posting your site on there will draw in visitors. If they like your site they may even put it on theres. I always do, if I see a site that I think it worthy of being advertised.
