Confused about Google Ad Placement

Sorry if this had been mentioned before.

I'm confused with Google's policies. Quoting from their policies,"

Up to three ad units may be displayed on each page.
A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a page.
Up to three link units may also be placed on each page. "

Does this mean we can have 3 ad units and 2 link units on the same page or does it mean that we can only have a total of 3 units on the same page?

It means you can have up to 3 ad units, 3 link units, and 2 search boxes on the same page.
