I can give you some basic adjustments to help you out a bit.
Remove one of those medium rectangle AdSense boxes, the worst performing one and replace it with your Valueclick medium rectangle. The higher up the page it is, the higher CTR it will get, the higher fill rate you'll get, so the more $ you'll get.
You don't seem to be using very many ad formats, you should be running both wide and slim skyscrapers, you're losing 0.30 cpm by not doing so.
The empty space where your Valueclick medium rectangle was, fill with CPX medium rectangle, also use the CPX skyscraper in one of your columns too. CPX are much better for payments now, haven't missed a payment for me - and also paid me a random $18 they realised they owed me. They pay low cpm 0.10, but if you have the empty ad space, why not? You can filter the ads you don't want displaying if they're too risque for your tastes.
Adding more ads isn't all, remove a whole load of the text updates from your front page, replace it by moving your latest comments and layouts sections up further. Then below that, again replace all that text with top categories. If users see text they don't really read it. If they see images they like, new stuff... they click it and go to another page, your bounce rate goes down, your page impressions go up = more $.
Move the latest news scrolling box lower down, it is taking up a prime menu position. Check your Google/site refers, see what people are clicking on or searching for to get to your site and in that space put links with keyword anchors to pages with that content, you'll get more page views because they'll see what they want right away and click... again... more $.
Edit: You're using MSRS, if there is a hack to make the code for each layout not appear below the preview, but instead on a new page, use it. That's one extra page view for every layout. More page views = ...yup... more $.
There's so much more you can do... but it's a secret recipe :P that should be enough to kick start some higher income though.

is this really true about positioning with valueclick? I had no idea that higher ctr gets you a higher fill rate.

I used to think it was that Valueclick knew where in the code you placed the ad code, because I moved my medium rectangle from the bottom to the top and it doubled in performance soon after. Then I realised that was dumb, it didn't know how high or low it was on the page, it simply was getting a better CTR, so it's fill was much better.
This happened to me with InVue and Interstitial, the click rate was virtually 0 about 0.01% and I wondered why I was making no money from them a day and I checked the campaigns and there were none for that site, they'd all 'switched off' from my site. I am certain CTR directly effects campaigns, poor CTR = less campaigns.
People forget with cpm based networks, you still need good ad performance to get the all money.

What felipe says is true. it's about performance for any kind of advertising you do. if the traffic you send is seen as higher quality your cpm's will go up also don't just use valueclick or other remnant advertising solutions. there are plenty of ways to get above a .30 cpm. If you can get into pooraffiliate.com, try to. It's like the early days at ypn.

you may also want to try adbrite on your site, if you haven't already... if you use the 3 main ad formats, you can generate almost as much as google daily. the downside is you are goin to have to find places for all the ads.

$18 per 1000 uniques? That's kinda hard to believe. If you show me proof I'll probably sign up under your affiliate link.

I forgot all about that. Will cya there later
As for Zango...........it does install stuff and I don't want that for my visitors.I am trying to walk a fine line between keeping my visitors coming back and maximising revenue without going overboard.I have been looking at the top sites very carefully and can see how they are making $$ but don't know how to put it into practice.Thats where my failing is.
Thanks for all the replies so far.

You shouldn't remove text from your frontpage, it will kill your very good ranking for certain keywords.

I am not totally removing it just moving it to the scroller further down the page which the SE's still see....I think.

Yes.
$18 is a small amount for 1000 considering it's 50 cents an install.... it's adware.
zango "180solutions" has a really bad rep though!
I remember when warner brothers dropped them because of the porn issue :)

As I said earlier i don't. Most people on here wouldn't touch it especially when your site turns up in Google search with "this site may harm your computer" under the listing.
Fine if it works for you ....good luck to you..........but it's not for me.

LOL i wouldn't touch Zango, i have heard so many horror storys, i mean its a good thing you get paid so much for 1,000 Uniques, you would need all the $$ i mean after all your visitors are only likley to visit your site once, because there computer would be in the trash / repair shop after Zango had finished with it.
But thanks for the warning on not to visit any of your 2's sites :).
