Hi,
I'm working on some generators at the moment, and need to get a clearer picture of which sites allow what. This boils down to choices between animated .gif and flash.

I searched the forums a bit, but haven't seen any list of what the restrictions are on each site, so I thought I would start one here and see how far off I am with it!

Just focusing on the big sites really, at least in terms of worldwide traffic:-

Myspace

Flash: Yes, but Flash comments need to be approved by user, if not whitelisted by the site
Gif: Yes

Facebook

Flash: Needs to be affiliated with the site
Gif: Only non-animated

Orkut

Flash: Yes, as scraps ?
Gif: Yes, as scraps

Hi5

Flash: Needs to be whitelisted by the site
Gif: Yes

Friendster

Flash: Yes
Gif: Yes

Xanga

Flash: Yes ?
Gif: Yes ?

Piczo

Flash: ?
Gif: Yes ?

Bebo

Flash: Needs to be affiliated with the site
Gif: Yes, cuts it down to first few frames however

Skyrock

Flash: ?
Gif: Yes

I'm sure there are lots of errors and omissions here, would appreciate any opinions on it.
Thanks

I've never really taken the time to see which of the smaller tier networks support flash. If you want your flash to work in orkut, you have to use whereas the other networks work with the correct syntax of

Yeah. I still like them because the users can save them to their computer and send them to each other etc easier. Well- i my opinion.
