View Full Version : Economy problems bringing down sales?

There's constantly something on the news about the economy and the US.. I don't live there so I can't really tell how bad it is but do you think its affecting the marketplace sales here or that it will anytime soon?
I know I won't sell Myspace content for a while because after converting, paypal fees and taxes there pretty much won't be anything left..
Do you also think that if it does go into a regression (or whatever the word for that is) the internet will no longer be a place where people can make money?

i dont think they're related.. the US economy and myspace layout sales.... eh, Yeah you can twist it around and say that each impacts eachother but generally speaking the two are universes away.
I make stuff, people who have money buy them, unless these sites stop making money.. I should be fine.
We're not in a depression, it's just the media... Repression, probably.. but its not as serious as the great depression (yet). We're getting a new president in a few months so until then I think everything's as smooth as jello. (realistically speaking, yes the economy is getting worse but It's not dramatic)
I could be totally wrong, I'm more interested in Europe than America..

I work in Finance and the US government and Congress have shown they are willing to do whatever it takes to help stimulate the economy. I would only be worried about inflation and so far the loosening of the money supply has not had an effect yet.

the word is recession :)
i think we are pretty safe for quite a while.
only been 4 recessions since 1980... and those not official being as the GDP never actually declined.
wikipedia has some info on recessions and how they affect globally, etc. and how they affect other economics. and also the measures governments take to offset them.

I got like a B in economy, but I don't know anything about it still. I learned about street racing and pregnancy.

lol yep np
i just kinda laughed at repression.. that would mean "we cant sell our graphics cause they keepin a brotha down!" lol
which isnt entirely wrong..lol
recession just more politically correct :)
i like the quote from there - "Recession is when your friend loses his job - Depression is when you lose your job."

I'm from Europe, and the weakening dollar is affecting my website earnings in a very bad way.

You mean you get paid in US dollars from Europe? I know what you mean though, many famous celebrities in the US are demanding to be paid in Euros.

Adsense earnings are all in dollars.. once you convert them to euros they're pretty much worth nothing :(
I think 1 euro is worth more than 1,50$.. just heard that on the news..

I don't think it'll have an impact on sales here.

I don't think it has any effect. People that don't have money to buy lots of content didn't have much money before the recession to begin with. Those that have the money and buy tons of content had it to begin with and will still have extra money to spend even with a recession. The only buyers that might be effected will be those that had a "little" money to spend on content now having no extra money to spend on content......but thats probably a small change and i'm sure they will still pick up a cheap pack now and then.

Write this down somewhere, let's see if it happens...
My guess is that the recession will get worse and worse until the dollar collapses completely.
Then we will be told the only way to save ourselves will be the Amero (spelling?), and it will be accepted because who in their right mind will want to have a bunch of useless dollars lying around when their children are starving and their rent is not paid...
Let's see, shall we?

The decreasing value of the U.S. dollar indirectly affects everything, even graphics sales.
Lower value of the U.S. dollar = everything is more expensive >
Everything is more expensive = people buy less >
People buy less = companies spend less >
Companies spend less = less advertising dollars >
Less advertising dollars = income lower to resource sites >
Income lower to resource sites = less money to spend on graphics >
Less money to spend on graphics = you have lower sales >
You have lower sales = you have less money to spend >
You have less money to spend + everything is more expensive = POTENTIAL DISASTER!
Its a vicious circle which is why the government will try almost anything to stop it.

I'm clueless about the economy but I also have a feeling the dollar will collapse because they just they keep printing without it really having a value behind it? (thought I read that somewhere, big chance I'm wrong though)
I think it will affect the marketplace here, if the dollar becomes worth less than it already is European designers will either have to raise their price or not sell anything at all.

That's scary.. I never knew that's how it worked exactly but after reading that I think the chance is very big that it will all collapse :S

The liberal media ignores positive reports on the economy while they are trying to get their candidate into power (so they can have explosive growth in federal spending and really destroy the dollar)
for example...I bet you didn't hear this on abc, cbs, nbc, cnn last night...
from seekingalpha.com (http://seekingalpha.com/article/64885-forget-the-obituaries-the-u-s-economy-is-alive-and-well)
1. Calculated on an annual basis from the same month in the previous year, January 2008 marked the 55th consecutive month of positive growth in industrial production. The last time annual growth in industrial was negative was June of 2003, more than 4.5 years ago (see chart above).
2. January's 2.3% annual growth in industrial production was below the long-run trend of 2.9%, possibly indicating a mild slowdown in economic production, but certainly nowhere the negative growth rates in output associated with a recession, see the circled, shaded areas of recession on the graph above.
3. Since the summer of 2007, there has been a slight upward trend in the growth rate of output, further suggesting that the U.S. economy has not entered a recession.

and the markets shall fall and a new world order will emerge...
you will only be able to buy glitters with a chip that will be implanted in your forehead at birth. with credits generated from new world order labor force..
it is truly the dawn of the apocolypse.
lucky for us we should run out of fresh water, air, and other natural resources long before that hehe
i agree it does affect everything to a degree..
but i dont see the dollar crashing for a couple lifetimes.

No, a falling dollar or a recession does not mean that the sky is falling or apes will take over the world. It is just an unwanted part of any economy.

The Amero will never happen I did a huge research paper for 4 months of the North American Free Trade Agreement about all 3 north american countries becoming one... from everything I read its not going to happen for atleast 20 years at the least!Write this down somewhere, let's see if it happens...

The dollar will never plumet like we all think. As soon as enough companies and foreign nations think the value of the dollar is "undervalued" our products and investments will be "considered" cheap to outside sources. So in return the US will only export more, which increases GDP and increases the value of the dollar. It acts as a check and balance.

Not true.. here in Europe we have to pay double for pretty much everything that comes from the US because of our weird import taxes system.. so unless that changes I don't think the US will export to Europe..

The Economy is what you as an individual make of it. There are good and bad times just like with everything in life. When MySpace made changes we adapted to them and moved forward cause if we didnt we would get left behind waiting and waiting.
Same with the Economy we have to be able to adapt to any situation if your a Company or just an individual.
Its all what you make of it and what decisions you make to overcome any wall thats in front of you.
Also what was said on a previous post about the liberal media is so so TRUE. The media controls alot of what happens even though it really shouldnt but it does. People tend to believe what their told rather then actually doing some research on it. This causes many decisions to be made without proper knowledge which causes a bunch of BS to happen that really doesnt even exist to begin with.

While I agree with pretty much all that has been stated, I also know that for the past few months I'm making a lot less with the same traffic and CPM rates. IMO, this is because advertisers are tightening their budgets. This means less ads to go around and lower fill rates. So indirectly, we will all feel a trickle down affect in revenue. On the flip side, this hasn't stopped me from buying content here.
Bernanke just indicated another interest rate cut just hours ago though. So lets see where that goes.

You'd get more sales if MSP didn't ban alot of buyers.

If they cant follow the RULES after being warned then thats what happens. This isnt K-ville or SNF (SNF no longer exists) were rules dont really apply. There is a standard within this forum and if there wasnt one every scammer known to man would be here also.

agreed. at least we give fair warnings here, sometimes even second chances. on topic with the spring/summer months coming here in the U.S the gas prices will start to soar which will mean even less money spent on advertising and content......unless you have a stake in the oil market
