From my understanding all PR rankings start at 0 when the site is a baby. It takes time, and older domains tend to rank better, although thats not always the case. Work on your seo, and your exchanges more.... thats what I did. I really dont know MUCH about PR, but thats what I have gathered over the past few years...

Incoming links from other sites is the only way to increase your PR. Content, traffic, and rankings have nothing to do with increasing PR. Although increasing your sites incoming links will also increase your rankings so they are indirectly connected.

I don't think plugboards would work because I'm not sure if they're nofollow and they're probably dynamic. You could do link exchanges with sites that have a PR but I'm not sure if link exchanges count as much as one way links. Submitting your website to free directories will usually give you a 1-3 PR :)

the best way is to go to the link exchange forum here and start doing link trades. This will help kickstart both your PR and traffic.

Go here and start PMing away: http://www.myspacepros.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=41

link exchanges with sites here (as long as they do not include the nofollow tag or use a redirect). you can go over to DP and pay someone to submit your site to a few hundred SE friendly directories for $10 - $120 depending on who you use and how many directories (usually a min of 100 directories for about $10)

when the site links to you if they add ref="nofollow" to the link then search engines will not count the link and it won't help your rankings or PR

i still don't understand why you would do a nofollow link, i mean if your going to give out a external link might aswell help them with search engine.

or is this so that if a search engine competitor buys a link to be on your site, they'll only recieve traffic help from your site, and not a potential gain on SEO?

for link exchanges i always do straight links without the nofollow tag. the only time i will add the nofollow tag is if the site i am doing the exchange with uses the nofollow tag themselves or uses a redirect on my link.

if their site won't give me any link credit then i won't give them any.

Link exchange will not bring you PR, just some traffic, even if you exchange links with do-follow tags.
Backlinks(or one way links), is what will bring you bigger PR, and better rankings.

Don't care about pr, my website is still pr0, but it get above 1000 uniques per day, and it is rated very good for some terms.

To get ranked better do some directory submission, but not more then 10-15 submisions per day. please note, that approving process for some directories may last few months.

You can try to buy some one way links, but be carefull, as google can ban your website.

Write some blogs related to myspace(or whatever is topic of your website), and post it to blogs. Do same with article, and submit it to article directories.

For more info how to get more traffic(and bigger PR), check this thread, it is very good for beginners:

My PR use to be 3 but it dropped to 0. Then my other site which is for my school friends to see went up to PR 4! And the thing is, I never bothered about PR with that site!
