Here are some free banner and logo creators (for those who can't afford Photoshop):
http://Cooltext.com is a simple logo, button creator. Free, totaly online, no DL needed, you can copy-paste obtained code of a logo or save it as a file.

This one is not free but it has 15 days trial period (fully operating):
