Hey I was wondering which you think would rank better and faster in google a site based on wordpress or a hand coded site both having the same exact content. Which would you choose? :detective:

In my most recent experience a site I hand coded in html ranked much better for the week it was live, and now not so much since I converted to wordpress.

Though it could just be the 'switching' that caused the rankings to plummet. My case is certainly not scientific.

I hand code everything.. at least you can create your own relevant file names.
I've never not hand coded anything so I wouldn't know the difference but my site does she up for the terms I included in the file name so I guess that's a good thing :)

honestly it doesn't make a difference... the only difference is one is more time consuming than the other... ;)

heheh.. it doesn't really matter even though your site is hand coded or just a simple html it will rank on search engines just do the right stuff.

I do not agree 100% with this.

I think there is difference. Of course there are good and bad things for each.
If you buy ready script, you need to find next:
1. check if script is encrypted, and if yes, it will be very hard to do any modification in future
2. check if they offer support, and updates
3. check if it is easy to customize templates
4. check if their url are SEO friedly
5. it is cheaper
6. you will not need to wait for script
If you buy custom script:
1. you can tell to coder what exactly want, starting form which modules you want, templates, url..
2. you will often need to wait much
3. you need to find good programmer, otherwise, somebody could try to sell you trash. It is hard to find good programmers today
4. it is more expensive, but when you make contract, you may ask for master resell rights
5. you will need to test script, and find bugs, otherwise, progammer might not be available in future.

If you ask me, I am for custom made scripts, but that is because I am programmer, and I like to have full control of programs. But for users who are not familiar with programming, system adinistration and rest it is probably better to buy ready made scripts!
