Ok one of my sites which has ranked number 3 for a 16000 searched /day term and had ranked strongly for over 1 year was removed from rank 3 to rank 40-50.

For 10 days I was dumbfounded to why this had happened.

When I started looking into the problem and trying eveyr thing to get the ranks back nothing work.

Here is what I did.

* Deleted he site map for the website in google webmaster tools.
* Renamed a bunch of pages and deleted the whole site and re uploaded it.

these may sound stupid but sure enough the site now ranks number 3 again.

If you have been dropped for a rank maby give these steps a go, its worth a shot.

Thanks, Ill try deleting the webmaster maps. if you read around though, this is a commomn occurance for sites around here. They go out of the ranks for a week or so then they get their ranks back, Im not saying these steps didn't work, but maybe you just had the same thing happen??
Thank you for the tips though, ill give them ago.

FLN:

no not deleting content, just deleting pages and re uploading them.

and re naming a bunch of pages ie: 50% of the sites pages.

These are just tips for people in desperate need to re gaining a rank which google has just removed you for.

I would not advise these if your site is ranking ok, as if may not be wise.

I have got a feeling that is pure coincidence, I was dropped from google for about a week, did nothing, and I went back up automatically. I think you just did those steps the same time they were putting you back up

come to think of it this is what i did and my ranks came back wierd enough I never though of this being the reason. I took everything off the site for a month and put it on another domain but the domain couldnt be searched by google then i decided to reupload everything to google and it all came back.

another POINT I did.

* added more content to the pages of the site - main content was using the keywords that I was targeting every where that was applicable.

Guys these tips are just something extra for people to try who are desperate to get lost ranks back.

If you have the back links and content you should get the links.

Changing the file name/page name or the page title?

typical behavior I have seen sites removed from the index for more than a day just to come back even higher ranked.... it has to do with updating etc...

That's just pure coincidence... Good that you got your spot back though!

i think i changed the folder name of my layouts so instantly like 1000 links were renamed which prolly got me penalized

Good content is always the answer, try to update and add new content everytime, or maybe you link to a bad site that's why drop on ranking.

but google admit that there are errors on there that's why lots of site drops there search ranking

Content is important for users, but tends to be overlooked by google. My blog has probably over 100 unique articles written by me and it gets negligible traffic from google or yahoo.

Content is king...what a joke that is. Google cares about how many pages a website has much more than the actual content. (of course those are tied together) but number of pages is more important IMO.

Condent is def. overrated in terms of rankings.
