Clicks on advertisements on Google and its partner Web sites rose about 30 percent from a year ago, which was a deceleration from previous quarters, executives said. Google also had trouble making money off ads on social networking sites, they added. Under its deal with MySpace, Google is committed to paying revenue even if consumers don't click on ads.

"We have found that social networking inventory is not monetizing as well as expected," said Chief Financial Officer George Reyes.

I wonder if Myspace is feeling any pressure from Google. Every profile has about 10-30 outgoing links in addition to the ads.

yeah. They are regretting their guaranteed revenues to myspace and with a looming recession things may be a darker shade of grey in 08.

Could be a bad thing for publishers as well. Recession = less ad spending means less money in your pocket as a publisher.

depends what niches you have sites in,

some niches will never have a loss in profits.

if its a boom sector you have sites in then its safe for the moment.

So if myspace decides to ban resource sites, you can point the finger at google as well. In fact, that could be the main reason. People aren't clicking adsense ads, so we're banning resource sites.

So if that day comes, it won't be because of Fox Interactive's greed; it will be because they have google on their ***.

Google's decision to give myspace guaranteed revenue was stupid. A niche that doesn't buy anything combined with all that competition on the pages....why would you guarantee revenue.
