View Full Version : 15 posts for a PM reply is a bit much!

Okay, so it's not really that bad...but my momentary dislike of this restriction gives me and excuse to complain about it (and in turn head towards my 15 post goal so I can reply to a friendly PM!)

In any case, the 15 seems to be just about enough to fend off most garden-variety drive-by board spammers.

I decided to try the install again and it suddenly worked, i think it was a ram issue.

yeah ani shop 3 is a lifesaver.
i find that if you apply that effect more than one time,
it adds more grain lines, instead of like 2 or 3.

Maybe add a scratch texture to it also, and just flip the texture etc for each frame. That might top it off.

well i didn't like that either because you also have to have 15 post before you can post a link in your post.. and my first post was for help and questions about my site which i needed to post the link for. and then i've read other post that i could of provided links to resources to help the original poster and couldn't... but i understand its a rule made to protect the forums from spam but i believe it actually encourages people to make a bunch of post that aren't really in the best qaulity of content just to get their count up

I think the 15 post requirement is quite effective, and although it is annoying when you first sign up, it's needed :)

You've been posting in an area where your posts don't count because, as you can see, people try to pad their post count quickly.
as someone is new here I agree with the posting / pm rule does help to cut down on unwanted spam 10 may of been better though lol
Fifteen posts is really not a lot to ask for, and five less will barely make a difference. At least Greg doesn't charge for registration to this forum.

Firstly I'm not *****ing ! SEcondly I have no intentions to SPAM anyone !
I am very well aware of how spam bots work as I run several VB forums and installed many for customers.
Obviously not a very friendly place by the looks of it.

Just wondering.. isn't it a better idea to only have people post marketplace threads if they've been a member for a certain time instead of having a number of posts? I constantly see people bumping and posting useless things just so they can post a marketplace thread :S

as a newbie to this forum (but not a newbie to forums/message boards) this was the first forum of its kind that i came across that had a min. number of posts before you could reply to a pm, post pics, etc. at first, i didnt think anything of it, until i got a pm that i wanted to reply to lol.
although it may be a bit of a pain in the you know what, i think that its worth it in the long run. it can however, cause a person to become "side tracked" if their only reason for signing up was because they wanted to sell graphics, scripts, etc. in the marketplace or post something that would involve posting pics, or whatever. but i can't tell you how many times i've stopped logging in to a forum, because of the fact that it was covered in so much spam, you couldn't find the "legit" posts if someone offered you a $1000 for it. and what's truly sad is that they were good forums until the spammers came along - grrrrrr.
but it does indeed without a question cut down on the spam, which makes it better for easy reading and overall makes the forum appear neater :)
sorry for my ramblings, lack of hunger does that to you lol.

yes it helps and its really not that hard, just a few minutes time.

Maybe slightly off-topic but I think what new users keep forgetting is that the quality of their posts matter a lot when they're here to sell things. They don't have an itrader yet so before buying things from them people will look up their posts to get an idea about the member. If all their posts are pretty much nonsense posts then it means they're only trying to make money without putting effort into it which doesn't seem like the kind of person people would want to buy things from..
