Does anyone give a crap about design...

Do users really care about design? Or is it simply content. I'm a CRAZY front end lover...in other words, I love making crap look wonderful for users. The thing is...I swear I am wasting my time sometimes! They ignore that crap and just grab code and leave...or do they?

Most users don't care about quality. There are some sites that offer god awful graphics and those are the ones used the most.....

A little of both, but most of the biggest/most popular sites are no designer's wet dream. Some of my most successful sites have been pretty messy-looking affairs.

It would depend who your audience, look at myspace- even thats a ****ty looking site generally speaking.

I don't even know what good design is when I see it, based on the success of these badly designed sites like Pleny of Fish, or sites with even less actual design, like Craigs list.

Maybe what most people would consider to be crappy design is actually more effective.

i think it has more to do with the quality in which people expect, and what the specific community has set up as cool. the myspace community has set up garbage as the standard for cool. if you look at a social networking site such as virb that community has put an emphasis in clean design. The average myspace user couldnt care less.

I think when u start out you have to have good quality to keep traffic but those big sites been open for awhile so people are familar with it so they dont care long as they have a big variety to choose from.

I only look for quality in graphics. Especially the quality of the layout you first see.
