Reguardless of the type of site you own, when your earnings and traffic are slumping, how do you guys stay motivated?

Love doing what you do without expecting anything in return :)
Just seeing my site online and spending time doing what I love is enough to keep me motivated. Even if I didn't get a single visitor, I'd still continue working on my sites because that's what makes me happy.

Isn't "earning and traffic slumping" enough motive to get crackin'? If that's not a motive, I don't know what the heck is.

Yep I agree, but sometimes it gets really discouraging. Especially since my earnings have been dropping this year.

I like seeing my site online as well.. To me that's an accomplishment in itself.. now only if I could motivate myself to clean the house....

Staying motivated is one thing.. but being stubborn and staying on board a sinking ship is another.
Adsense has for a long time paid rock bottom for myspace resource traffic because they know half these sites are owned by kids and they can pay them pennies and get away with it.
So thanks to a flooded market, we're getting robbed for clicks. I've been researching over the past 2 months and discovered that EVERY niche pays more than myspace resource niches in adsense. It takes 100 MSRS clicks to = the same $$ you can get for just 10 clicks in any other niche.
So yeah... stay motivated :)

You need multiple streams of income. In other words, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
George is right. Adsense is paying very little for myspace sites. There are other types of sites where Adsense pays $x.xx or $0.xx a click.
Also, I don't see Valueclick running on your site. You should at least have both Adsense and Valueclick on a myspace site to make more. But in order to get into Valueclick, you'll need to remove the sexy stuff on your site.

Agreed on the "multiple streams".
If what you've been doing isn't working out, doing twice as much of it won't work either. What is two times $0? ;)
Never put all eggs in one basket. Use multiple ad networks/affiliate programs, seek out multiple sources of traffic, use multiple webhosts when possible because even the best of them are susceptible to flaking out.

FWIW the reason for low-paying clicks on Myspace-related terms is that Myspace-related sites do not "sell" anything. So bidding on those terms is pretty much restricted to minimum bid or two pennies more for the most part.
It's not difficult or unreasonable to add a "hosting resources" page to a myspace graphics/layouts site. Of course it would not likely receive much traffic, but what few clicks do come along are likely to pay out in the $8 to $10 range.

i agree with david its easy to add non myspace content pages to myspace sites to get higher paying clicks while still making those pages relevant to your site and useful to your visitors

I watch motivational movies and books. I block anything negative from entering my mind. If my traffic sinks, I'll be in a good mood and it will be easier to pick my site back up. I used to suck at getting myself motivated, but now I'm permanently motivated and it shows (at least in person).

Wife, 2 kids, ex-wife, 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 bunny, 1 guinea pig, 5 hamsters, 2 rats, 4 snakes, 4 geckos, 2 lizards, 1 tarantula, 1 scorpion, and fish = BILLS.
BILLS = Motivation.
To make sure I don't burn out I divide my time between sites:
1. Update content on sites.
2. Tweak sites to target what's working well.
3. Work on new site. I am always building a new site.
My sites vary in topic so working on a variety keeps me interested.

Staying motivated isn't' hard. It's actually easier to work harder when you are in a slump than when things are growing. I have quite a few sites, some myspace related some not. I've been motivated to make multiple types of sites with different genres so that earnings may rise and drop in each genre but I always am earning well on a few of them.

Traffic is soooo hard to get. You can be linked on a site that gets thousands of visitors a day but if you don't have a nice button, a good anchor text, or a good spot, it doesn't even matter if you are linked or not. That is my bid problem. And it sucks having to buy advertising since it's not guaranteed visitors and once the advertising is over, you are most likely down to the amount you used to get.

I read some where, maybe here, the advice that having a site where you are giving away free stuff (ie myspace)is very unappealing to advertisers. So now I use my Myspace sites to practice my SEO and see what it takes to get visitors. Other niches do pay way better, I have one site where the average click is worth $1.00 and up. Trying now to get good SE postion for the site,Myspace sites were good practice though.

I run lots of different kinds of websites and try at least one new project every 3 months.
Drink some redbull, put on some music, get a friend working with you, hire a part timer, and create some kind of accountability.

my visitors, my family & my earnings keeps me motivated. When my traffic goes down, it challenges me and it makes me want to update more until my traffic go up again. Also, the quotes I have in my wall really inspires me ... "DO WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY!" && "strike while the iron is hot" ^^
