Ok i have asked around but nobody seems to be able to help me out. I am 16 years old and i signed up for Google Adsense. It is now telling me to suply a tax id number or a social security number. I am not 18 so i'm not sure what to do. My mother is on disability so i'm not sure if i use hers what will happen with that since she isn't supposed to make any extra money or they will cut off the wopping $600 she gets a month.

So do i just go ahead and use my social security number or what?
I know alot of people that have google adsense that are my age or younger. What do you guys do?

I was reading that and noticed it had to do with bank accounts.

I have my own bank account, it's a savings but my grandmother's name is on it too since i am under 18. Would i still be able to use that bank account since her name is there as well?

But anyway i hope this is the right place to put this. I wasn't sure if it should go in web developement or not =S

The bank account won't be an issue as they are mainly using it to either pay you or initial name verification just be sure to tell them its a savings, your grandmother being on the account as well should not be an issue.

And just for safe purposes I wouldn't use your mothers SSN, unless you can afford to pay her the $600 a month she may end up losing, better to play this safe than sorry.

On the bright side if you're generally concerned about losing the account because you're only 16, go to irs.gov and apply for a tax id # for your business and see if you can have someone over 18 co-sign on that. The tax id generation is immediate, though read up on applicable taxing laws on actual businesses. :)

Hope this helped a little.

Thanks. I'll check out the tax id thing. Yea i'm not even going to consider using hers. I can't afford to have her lose her checks. =S

How about your Grandma, maybe she can open it with you. The taxid thing is worth checking out but then your going to have to start putting in tax returns etc which cost money.

If your not earning over 10k a year after expenses then try and keep it as low key as possible. Use Paypal to take in the money but also keep enough in there to pay make payments from.
Doing that you shouldn't have a problem with the irs.

Hmm...maybe you can open another bank account, for everyday kinda use and connect that one to your adsense.

I don't know about the US but in Aus you have a 'tax file number' which is what I had to provide, they are free and you just fill out a forum and they send you one.

the main rule is if you are under 18 you are not meant to be using adsense, pay pal or any other program.

The way to get around it is to use your mums, friends or grandma's info.

Overall its harsh but they have to have rules for litigation purposes.

hope u work it out.

Yeah like I said Shannen
I think your best bet would to ask your Grandma, which I'm sure if you let her know it will make you money in the long run, she'll be kind enough

I use my mom for everything
Besides PayPal, thats in my name, but still the bank account is in my moms name, I'm just a "Minor" on the account

Same with me. Yea i'm going to call my grandma tomarrow and talk to her about it. The only thing is she ALWAYS tells me what to do with my money and i'm just afraid she's going to be controlling about it. It figures, the only person i can trust i can't use. (my mom) Just can't risk anything happening with her checks.
