google ads have officially been taken over by some sort of alien life form. the aliens are eating our CPM's and click throughs and we are all going to go to hell if something isn't done.
i'd rather put a picture of my butt in the 300x250 space on our sites. At least my visitors would laugh instead of ignoring that section since everyone ignores it and doesn't click on it anyway.

Dude, I'm on 0.09eCPM today and 0.4% CTR
A month ago that was like 2.5% and $2.50
I'm puzzled.

Ya, that's because of the new ad click-through areas.

Could it possibly have to do with the fact that they reduced the clickable region? That is, you can only click link titles or URL's.

Anyone remember when Google said that they were going to ban arbitrage sites, and some people were talking about how non-arbitrage sites would probably make more per click because of it?
Well, it seems RIGHT after the date that Google claimed that they would ban those sites (not sure if they did or not), that the price per click that I was getting was shot straight to hell! I used to be able to make anywhere from $1 to $1.50 for 2-4 clicks. Now, I can barely get past .21 cents with SEVEN clicks!
I swear that they're smart-pricing us.

I'm down around 60% on MySpace sites for the past month. Non MySpace sites seem to only be down a little.

I say I have lost about 1/3 of my earnings since they changed the ad's. Kinda bumming maybe I should have sold some off last month when things were cool.

Might be a combination of several factors that have changed over the past few months:
1. Advertisers think myspace is dying, and not worth too much of investment.
2. Too many sites with so many pageviews with not so many advertisers making actual bidding needless. Even if your bid is 10 cents you'll definately get in somewhere for 2.
3. The clickable area change.
Try to put up less adsense blocks so you get more per click - only the higher bids will show for users. I don't think it's worth annoying my users for a lousy $0.03 eCPM.
Can't wait to have Yahoo Publishers on my site.

I should blog about this. Obviously google reduced the clickable region to help protect advertisers, but a lot of sites are getting hit hard by this.

Funny, I have two myspace sites same concepts but different layouts. One performs extremely well - the other has the same traffic but the click thru ratio is low and the payout is even worse. Now I have a non myspace site which is bigger than both sites - but it has been suffering with google. Several months ago I was making twice as much as I am now with less traffic than I have now. I tend to use a combination of adbrite, google adsense, and valueclick. Whenever google misbehaves I put it on the back burner and use one of the other networks. I may have to look back into yahoo again.

google is always looking to protect the advertisers at the expense of the publisher. sure the advertisers are loving it but if things continue what good with it to them if everyone starts switching out adsense for other CPC providers. hell even bidvertiser looks better then adsense right now

My earnings have definitely decreased majorly in the last year. It's gotten to the point that I only check earnings monthly since I know there's not as much in there, lol.

Why are people removing their contextual ads?
There's so many other contextual advert companies out there!
Adbrite, Bidvertiser, Clicksor to name but 3.

I'm positive adsense earnings have decreased in the last year bigtime, but recently mine have been up on previous months. I think the key is to change your layout every few months, if you have return visitors then they're going to forget about your ads if they're in the same spot with the same colours every single time.

When 75% of the people running adsense don't even know what "html" stands for then this is bound to happen. Will it last for long? In my opinion probably not. A dollar a day will only get someone so far. The true webmasters will stick around and see the old adsense flow back in. All the "others" will fade away into oblivion and realize that this is not the place for them. Don't get me wrong everyone has to start from somewhere. We all have. But now theres so many scripts floating around anyone with a half of brain can pop up a site and take money out of the market. Plus you have whateverlife on national tv shows and fwl flaunting their money. It truly isn't good for the business to bring attention to it. Everyday in this forum you see prime examples of the "others" I'm referring to. The ones who ask how to make Myspace layouts, create dollie sites, and are too lazy to Google SEO questions. The real webmasters in here have looked to expand their knowledge and have multiple sites in multiple niches. When I first got involved in the web business it was the only thing on my mind. This is also what separates the webmaster making XXX,XXX a year and the webmaster making XXX.
PS,
This is not pointed at anyone in particular. The dedicated people know who they are and the lazy ones looking for a quick buck know who they are.

I agree. People put their blinders on once they're used to the site layout. :)

My adsense revenue from myspace sites is also down by over 50% . I've found though that trying formats other than the 300x250(everyones used to it now) give a higher ecpm and ctr.
Its all about multiple revenue streams. Ever heard the sayin "don't put all your eggs in one basket"...
