I just got my new pc back from being returned due to the tower booting but no pic. I tried it on 3 monitors. I returned the pc, and got another one today. I'm pretty sure it's the same pc, just "repaired".

Its doing the same thing. I've been chatting with HP help but they aren't too helpful. If anybody here is a true computer nerd and might be able to help me figure this out, please PM me. Or hit me up on messenger.

I don't want to send the stupid thing back again. And this old pc is about to die, so I need this new pc to work. And I swear its gotta be something I'm overlooking.

This may seem abundantly obvious but check you are plugging the monitor into the correct socket on the back of the computer. Sometimes there are two places it can be plugged into - onboard socket and graphics card - if it has the graphics card, that's where it needs to go. Don't ask me how I know this. :o

RKGraphics
November 28th, 2007, 09:47 AM
yeah, its all plugged in correctly. this is the same pc that i returned. i know it because the dvd rom sticks when going back in and the sticker is popped out in the same place. the monitor is working, i plugged it in to my other pc. just no output from the tower for some reason.

im so effin mad. i either got screwed or im a total and complete idiot and am just missing something.

Where did you get it "repaired"?

make sure the graphics card is seated well (if it is not integrated).

Also, is the monitor new as well? You could try booting into safe mode and see if that works.

i bought the pc from newegg.com. i sent it back to them for a replacement. my rma status said "repaired".

i just took a video. i know im not crazy. i may post it so you can see im not crazy

just send it back. dont try to fix it yourself as theres something wrong with it. if you make money online? dont gamble with it. you will lose more time that way. just send it back and ask for a new PC.

so call em back and tell them if you send it this time are they going to replace it. get a manager and a confirmation that you will not get the same one back. im sure if your still under warrantly they will do it.

its not under waranty. but i do have an extended waranty. i didnt know this was like buying a brand new car that was never sold in the model year it came out.

so the hp waranty is done. but the newegg guarantee is like, idk. crap.

ah i see. well you need to ask them if they will replace it under the warranty they gave you. unless you want to fix it yourself and then you might have to kick out some cash. it could be the mother board or the video card going crazy.

If somethings wrong with a computer with typical BIOSes it should beep more than once. Also, there could be 2 videocards installed - onboard and offboard. Offboard, the one on the bottom would be the port you plug it into.

Depending on the bios, it could beep like 2 short one long etc.. Can you tell us the beeps ? Ill look up the PC.

friggin third time today i tried to post and msp logged me out before i was done and i lost the big long **** lol

is the monitor getting power from pc at all? like if off.. and monitor is on.. the monitor should have a light that goes red/green or whatever.. does the monitor light go green but not show a picture? or does it stay on off position even tho tower is booting.
if not getting power at all i would check to see that the vid card was seated properly (if not onboard vid)

also i had an issue with an hp where the mouse and kb were labeled incorrectly. and it would not post because they were backwards.. pretty rare that one.. but its happened.

there could be a few reasons why its not posting..

i have seen em stuck in standby mode where i needed to hit esc or power back on the monitor after boot to get signal or bring out of standby..

could have onboard video enabled/disabled improperly in the bios. havent looked if that card is onboard or plug in because im trying to be quick so i dont get logged out again haha
<copying this to clipboard before hitting post this time haha>

where are you plugging your monitor? are you using a VGA plug or a DVI? If your monitor has a VGA to DVI connector or vice-versa, try the other plug. Don't see why it wouldn't work anyways... but it's worth a try.

Sounds like you need a new Videocard :o Or a possible RAM issue, since certain BIOSes don't beep at all if theres faulty RAM. Newegg sure got sucky.

Prolly the card hey? 40$ for a new one =o Ill buy you one if you want on the 30th

RKGraphics
November 28th, 2007, 11:22 AM
i even just spoke to a manager who was cocky as hell.

they wont refund me. and if i charge it back, they just send it right back to me. i hung up on the guy and he keeps calling me back to be ****ing jerk. he asks "hi i think we got disconnected", and i said NO I HUNG UP ON YOU BECAUSE YOU WONT HELP ME. and he just keeps calling back.

looks like im gonna have to repair it myself. i asked them, how many times do i have to send it back and get doa pc's until you refund my money, they said they just keep doing it until i get one that works. he tried to tell me this is a totally different pc. but i KNOW its the same friggin one.

Put a complaint in with the BBB, they will investigate it and try to resolve it...

minnseoelite
November 28th, 2007, 11:41 AM
the BBB wont be able to do anything cause newegg is offering her a chance to send it back for another replacement not just blowing her off. It says right on the site in their service agreement that a defective PC is covered by repair or replacement so they have not broke their part of the agreement yet.

tina have you tried contacting the company your extended warranty is under, their thing says onsite service maybe they can send someone out to look at it

Hp computers suck. I have a refurbished one that cost alot of money (alot to me anyway) and i think my old one works better X_X

Check to make sure everything is plugged in right in the tower. Then call them up or whatever you do and ask them about the things inside the tower. Like if a little piece of something broke off of something inside the tower, i can ruin the whole damn thing. It happened to me. My old tower was possessed and it would reboot constantly and the CD drive would open and close on it's own all the time.

I've never had anything but good luck with newegg. But as for HP, I guess its just an opinion, because I hateeeee HP. I swear upon Dell's and Mac's.

I would try to just to fix it yourself, maybe google and see if someone else has had these types of problems.

RKGraphics
November 28th, 2007, 04:53 PM
ha. i just googled it. lol nothing i can see.

i spent lots of time with hp. only thing i can really try is to replace the vid card. this is my second, supposedly different tower. funny how they both do the same thing.

Kasami2k4
November 28th, 2007, 05:09 PM

step 4 did nothing for you? do you know the button for your model that is supposed to bring up the bios? have you been to the motherboard manufacturer site? thats where i would start if nothing on that link worked and was gonna try to fix myself. then i would try a diff vid card too if one was available.
if not worth the headache its best to get another replacement from newegg as much as it sucks. i personally havent had any probs with them and been using for years. maybe two doa things out of over a hundred and those were promptly replaced no questions. i have heard horror stories that full systems from them have been doa like 4-5 times in a row.. but at least they will keep sending em til one works lol

November 28th, 2007, 06:41 PM
Agreed, the best thing would be to bring it back in for service. No video problems generally should have been caught before you even got the PC. Sounds like no one at newegg even tested the thing before giving it to you.

RKGraphics
November 28th, 2007, 06:44 PM
its being dealt with.

when i say i've tried everything, i mean it.

it has hardware issues. im positive of it. it needs to be brought in and paid for out of my pocket, or sent back. its going to be sent back.

RKGraphics, from what ive read the computer, when powered up, does not even post. Are you able to hear the hard drive spinning at all?

Regardless, it sounds like a hardware conflict being that it wont even go into POST mode (startup "beep"). Post issues are, from my experience, dialed down to ram.

Ive noticed your box has 2GB meaning 4 potential problems (each RAM stick). I would open the box and remove each ram stick one by one and try booting the machine without it. Try to boot the machine after each stick you remove. You do not need any more than (x1) 512 stick in there for it to run, so remove it and leave it out if it does not fix the problem then move to the next. If you get to the last one, and it still dosent load, replace it with one of the others so all sticks have been removed. If it boots minus one of the ram sticks, you got your problem. Put the others back and get a new stick.

If not, try to mount an older hard drive on the ribbon and set it to primary drive. If you get so much as a POST "beep", you know its the hard drive.

If still not working, unplug the network card (if its a PCI not on the mother board) and try to boot. Unplug the video card and try to boot. Unplug the CD rom and try to boot. Unplug the sound card and try to boot. If you get the POST "beep" after doing any of these, you know the culprit. If you remove all devices one by one and it still does not post, your mother board may need repair / replacement.

Listen clostely for the "beep". Its very important. If the beep is sounding but you are not noticing, the above is void. If there is no beep, a hardware issue is probally....wait...is definatly your issue. Identifying and replacing it will be cost effective, a great experience and in all honesty, its easy.

Let me know if it works out...

RKGraphics
November 28th, 2007, 11:16 PM
wow. thanks for the info.

my understanding was that the beep meant something was wrong with the hardware, meaning if i remove the card then there's a beep, it just means the card is missing.

after removing the video card and reinstalling it, there was a really low beep shortly after i pressed the power button. i then secured it more by removing it and reinstalling it and the beep went away.

i see what you are saying about the ram sticks and the hard drive. however, if i unplug anything on here, i will get a beep.

do i make sense? or am i not understanding the post beep with the last step?

thanks so much for your time in sharing these steps. not even the hp tech went as far as that. :)

If you know what bios is running, depending on the beep-combo when it starts up, can tell you where a problem exists.

her PC has the Asus P5BW-LA motherboard which from what I found was made exclusively for HP and does not appear on the ASUS website. This motherboard uses the Award Bios, I also came across a few referrences on other sites with people having problems with the Geforce 7500le graphics cards having some issues in this HP series and most people just resorted to buying a different PCI-E graphics card.

Personally I prefer the 7300GT graphics card performance is the same as the 7500le and it draws less power. This is the one I have had since last spring

Take the tower to a local PC shop, one that does repairs would be best but it doesn't really matter.
Ask them to check it out for you, normally they won't even charge and if they do it won't be more than $20 .... then at least you will know what the problem is.

My son and his mates are always taking the PC's into shops to sort out problems and it's very rare that they get charged at all .... and they don't even have boob's rofl

RKGraphics
November 30th, 2007, 08:46 AM
well here's the deal. im going to attempt to try the above steps and see if i can figure it out.

but the pc is going back for a third return. and if the third one has the same prob then i'll take it in and newegg's supervisor said if they diagnose the problem and know what it is, they will help pay for the cost. or i can just send it back for a refund.

so its being worked out. it just took a bunch of steps to get them to listen to me.
