Just got this from Amazon. Could be interesting but referral fees are not really all that great.

-----
The Amazon Associates program is excited to announce the launch of Amazon Widgets. Amazon Widgets are small, visually dynamic, easily configurable tools that allow you to feature products from Amazon on your website, blog or social networking pages. In as little as one minute you can populate a widget with your favorite Amazon products, your comments about those products, and select from a set of color and layout themes to match both your mood and website.

Widgets are an extension to our classic Associate Links offerings, and the simple-to-use web interface for building and implementing both widgets and links is at http://widgets.amazon.com (http://widgets.amazon.com). Just as with our classic Associates link formats you can earn referral fees of up to 10% on these new widgets.

This is a great idea.

The only widget I'd be careful with is the Context Links. I think you're allowed to use either Adsense or Context Links but not both on the same webpage.

I also received that today .... not sure how your supposed to use them on your social networking pages though. Isn't that against the TOS.

Could someone tell me what I'm missing.

hmmm is amazon good?

I sold a website for a decent amount last year and I notice the new owner has filled the site with amazon affiliate sales?

are they really profitable?

Amazon sucks. The cookies last thing I heard lasts one day and they pay peanuts

Great, more widgets for people to spam their website/blog/page with adverts ...

Amazon is not that bad. Just pick a decent niche. I picked a niche for a band and I get gift certificates all the time (You can also get a check but I like buying stuff on Amazon anyways).

Amazon is ok. The cookie is only 24 hours. It would never be a primary earner but it does ok as supplemental income. It works well with niche sites. Add a few relevant producs or iframe an astore into your site and random sales show up. Its funny because I get as many sales for off topic items as the niche items.

Amazon would be the worst affiliate program in existence save for 1 thing. People trust them. That's the only thing they have going for them. Their selection is good, but you can find other affiliate programs with an equal selection. And their 1 day cookies are inane. They used to last longer, but they decided to kindly change that one day.

Shareasale also offers dynamic widgets, with many vendors paying higher commission percentages than Amazon does, and with much longer cookie durations ~ most are 30 days or more, some are even a full year duration. Worth checking out if you've got spots for stuff like this :)

And their 1 day cookies are insane

Is it a 24-hour cookie? I've always had the impression that it was a session cookie.
