View Full Version : Advertising MSRS on low budget. Help :)

Hey everyone,

Ive just recently opened my MSRS site MunchMyspace and have tried a few bulletin advertisements with varied success.

So now after a week or so I am averaging around 300 uniques per day. This obviously isnt providing me with alot of income to turn into advertising, as I have exhausted my funds I started with.

However, I now have some more money (not alot talking 1-3 hundred) and want to use it wisely.

I figure my options are:
- Spend this on a large number of bulletins over a few weeks.
or
- Purchase a text advertisement on a huge myspace website for a week.

The second option interests me but is a bit of a wildcard. For example with couple of hundred dollars I can advertise a text link ad in a good spot for 1 week with approx. 150,000 uniques per day seeing this.

But do you think this second option would give me enough visitors to sustain a good average amount of uniques and pay off the cost of the ad?

Im hoping a more experience Myspace advertiser can give me some advice here.

Regards,
Dean

I'll sell you a link for $95 for a week. Got over 77,000 visits yesterday.

Forget about bulletins, they are the idiot's source of traffic.

Off-topic: I saw your site the other day, pretty much the best MSRS site I have seen design/look wise. Seeing MunchMySpace actually does make me think, maybe I should buy MSRS and I generally have zero want or intention of buying it, so that's something!

I saw another one today too, with the menu on the left, looked quite good. But yes, Dean, congrats outstanding MSRS site, in my opinion by a huge margin the best looking MSRS site. (tweakingmyspace.com was my former fave, nice site to whoever owns that one)

I like how your layouts categories are all on the same page too, just for starters. Most MSRS sites have categories listed over a few pages, lame. Everything about it looks good, the fact it has 'sharp' corners to the tables not rounded makes it look better too.

@fryman: I have PMed you :)

@DavidR: Thanks, i have spent alot of time on the website and trying to make mine a little unique. Im glad you like what I have done :D

tweakingmyspace.com is also very nice, they havent modded alot of graphics but just done a very good job with their branding. Simple but still stands out from others.

Thanks for the help so far, any other opinions?

I agree with DavidR, I really dig munchmyspace and just wish I was more of a designer...sure makes making a great site easier heheh.

I've seen a few other really nice ones as well. I think I know which other one you saw David and it is good too. tweakingmypsace used to be one of my favs as well but not much compared to the new designs some of these guys are coming out with.

As for the topic lol, I would spend the first part of the budget getting one of the good adder bots (adder robot or badder adder) so you can start building some of your own accounts to send out bulletins rather than pay others for it. Then use the rest to buy some good text links. Hopefully enough to cover the month rather than one big shot otherwise you will have a spike then lose the traffic. Although it may be the same, it's not very motivating seeing the traffic die off like that heheh. Frymans offer is a good one too.

Thanks Scilynt, thats a real help. I havent even looked into adder bots .. are they expensive? I suppose ill have a look.

But yeah I personally am starting to think, with the advice here and what I have read that bulletins (unless by me) dont work out the best money wise.

And once again thanks for the compliments on the design :)

Anymore comments welcome of course, once I have gone through with any of these ill let you all know how it goes.

Also, Scilynt I have sent you a PM.

There are some bulletin services that do work and give good spikes in traffic but it always seems to be temp traffic and no major return visitors because of them. But if you can make your money back the same day as the bulletin then it's pretty nice.

Trying to push your own sites "ad us" link is also a great way to go about it. Anyone you get to add you through your site is very nice, extremely targeted users. You can send messages whenever you add new content or just to remind them about the site.

Building up other accounts just to promote your site is a good way to try to get constant traffic coming in. Because of myspace cracking down on advertising some, it's best to use "throw away" accounts to do that. That is where the adder bots come in.

The two main ones are:

adder robot - http://www.adderrobot.com/ = $17

and

badder adder - http://www.badderadder.com/ = $50

I believe both have demos so you can play around with them. Badder adder has a few extra features and supposedly quite a bit easier to work with multiple accounts at the same time. But both have a lot of happy users.

I agree. Whenever I send a message or bulletin to my friends about updates on my site I get replys like "that is so cool, thanks", instead of the typical "who the f*ck are you?"

But bulletins are the worst source of traffic. Even if you have the perfect target and perfect friends it is still a useless way of getting trafffic via spikes, what you need to do is get a constant flow of traffic through the day

Thanks everyone, I have been looking into the bots as I am not too keen on bulletins from others at the moment.

But does anyone have experience of text link advertising on a very large site?

Its looking like I could possibly afford a months worth on a large website but not sure what to expect results wise?

Ie. a month on for example frymans site (77,000 visits per day). What should I expect and can I expect to earn my money back?

Hope someone can help :)

Fryman - does your site get 77k visits a day? Thats what I assume from your post as I had seen your post in DP too. How many hits does a 95$ a week text link get?

No idea, I just started offering advertising a few days ago

Best thing to do would be trying it out for a week and if it is worth it you can then get a spot for a longer term

It works....

Although it worked better when I had it all to myself! (Still worth doing though)

Yep, I have to say Frymans links are a good deal as well. Not sure on the specific numbers yet but my guess is it would pay for itself withing that week and at the very least break even and you hopefully gain the extra traffic.

I'm sure other big sites with more traffic work just as well and may be an even better ROI but I like the idea of giving the money to a fellow owner rather than someone else if I can ;).

Saying that though, I do hope Fryman limits the amount of links he has at any one time to keep the value up and make sure they work well for those that buy ;).

I've made my money back (+ some)...I'd better send a renewal payment coz it's due to expire sometime in the next 24 hrs from memory.

Scilynt
November 7th, 2006, 02:54 PM
lol, fryman didn't want to sell links and now he is going to end up having to setup paypal subscriptions for people wanting to auto-renew

hehe... I was thinking of opening 10 spots, but as you said I don't think it would be fair. Right now I have 6, I'll try to keep them at 5

Best thing to do would be to look for sites that are well ranked and visit them and look for some advertising link

And believe me.. it is not expensive... got almost 100k visitors yesterday

Yeah... I know... just remember that to earn big you need to spend big

I am working my *** off building more traffic so I hope I can continue driving lots of visitors to my clients with these links. Most of the money I have made with these links has been reinvested in advertising, so traffic should continue growing.

Well... that is a mistake. Sure, I can send a million visitors to your site, but what's the use if they are never going to return?

Give them something to come back for

money_trainlots. Like I said, it is well worth it and fryman is offering a bargain ;).

As far as your site not being modified, in the end it doesn't matter so much. If the traffic is going to the site then you will make money. You may make more if there are lots of things to keep them there and looking around and coming back but you will get clicks by default with a lot of traffic.

Based on my experience you will make more than you spend with a Fryman link buy...The site I sent it to is heavily modified/added on to though.

My budget is rather low, I'm talking I pretty much spent it all. It is fryman though and I have been here long enough to realise that means this is good, along with the 'reviews' people have made of it.

Would you guys say it is worth buying a link for just 1 week if that is all my budget currently allows? Does the link give over 500 visits per day?

Can you PM me please fryman with your site and some details.

I am aware I may have to wait for this offer if you are limiting it to 5 spots.

fryman
November 8th, 2006, 01:28 AM
Yup, gonna take a few days to see if there are any spots avilable. Sending PM now ;)

Drew
November 8th, 2006, 01:38 AM
DavidR: 500 a day easily for me, I took a 1 week link to try it out (4th + spot) and it more than paid for itself.

My link was due to expire today, I'll look up what time it was due to expire and be pulling some stats from my logs for a 7 day period.

I was happy enough with the link that I extended it for another month.
